Joint and Door Construction
Our work is handcrafted for the highest quality cabinet doors with concern to construction and details. We create our joints using a "cope and stick" style of construction. All joints are 1/2" deep, where basic panels are often 5/16" or smaller. Joints are glued and stapled from the back for the best appearance.
Our doors are always high quality solid wood, FAS grade, and 13/16" compared to other cabinet door manufacturers that may finish out thinner and may use a number one common hardwood to save on their costs. Often homeowners feel that they can save money by choosing plywood doors, or lip mould doors, rather than solid wood, but they don't realize that for the price it is better to use solid wood in the long run. Plywood doors, or lip mould doors, generally have extra costs for additional enhancement work so that the appearance is comparable to our solid raised-panel or flat-panel doors. Cabinet doors constructed of solid wood are only slightly more expensive in total costs, but yield a door of higher and more durable quality. Our doors are delivered unfinished to save you money and time in attempting to match your cabinets.
The construction of our doors comes from years of experience in understanding what keeps doors from splitting. In our company's history, our doors have never split because we understand all aspects and differences regarding panel width and leverage. One such example of understanding quality construction is evident in our use of "space balls".
"Space Balls"
Doors are built as square frames with a grooved insert along the inner facing edges. These grooves hold the panel in place. We must allow for some shifting as the panels move. Space balls are small pliable balls dropped into these grooved edges to allow for shifting that will prevent the stile and rail from separating.
Tips for the Do-It-Yourself Installer
- The width is the more important of the two measurements, and must therefore be as close to complete accuracy as possible. This means that you will need to obtain the exact opening of the width as you can.

- The height may be out of square, but get all heights the same.
- You may also give us the actual door and drawer front sizes that are needed.
- To facilitate the process of installing your new doors, consider ordering our Ferrari Concealed Hinges. We use a Ferrari Compact 110 for extra strength, durability, effectiveness and speed.
